Chaotic Neutral is the alignment where freedom and abandon are placed as the highest good. The Player's Handbook as this to say about CN:

Chaotic neutral (CN) creatures follow their whims, holding their personal freedom above all else.

Conversely to CN's antithesis, Lawful Neutral, which equates order with goodness, Chaotic Neutral equates disorder with goodness. One of the best examples I can think of is Deadpool in Deadpool (2016). You know how Deadpool seems to want to stay out of the X-Men for no other reason than "I don't want to join a team"? That, to me, is the epitome of Chaotic Neutral.
