We all know that in the Great Wheel model of the multiverse, every alignment has a quintessential creature associated with it. Neutral Good has the guardinals, Chaotic Good has eladrin—and on the evil end of things, we have the devils standing on the side of Law and demons standing on the side of Chaos. But about Neutral Evil? That's where these guys come in.

Yugoloths (or daemons (I say "DAY-minz") in Greyhawk sources), also known as centrists, both-siders, and the military-industrial complex, are a race of Neutral Evil fiends. They stand unaligned on the spectrum of Law and Chaos. They are perfectly willing to operate within the bounds of authority, but are just as willing to defy said authority if it suits them. They see structures and systems of power as useful tools for achieving their ends, and unlike tanar'ri don't actively seek to subvert them.

They aren't very well understood, in large part because people tend to focus on the stars of the show: devils and demons. They are, however, beings of unfathomable malice and cruelty.

The yugoloths support both sides of the Blood War.

Ecology

Yugoloths can be found all over the Lower Planes, including Moria, Gehenna, Carceri, and the Blood Rift in the Abyss.

Take note—and this is extremely important—that yugoloths are all hermaphrodites.

Leadership

Many sages in Planescape claim that the elite among the yugoloths are the ultroloths (analogous to pit fiends and balors). The mightiest of the yugoloths are the altraloths (analogous to archdevils and demon lords).

The nominal leader of the yugoloth race is the urgaloth, an office currently held by Anthraxus. The supreme leader—their true leader—is the General of Gehenna.

The sages of Golarion call the mightiest among the daemons the harbingers. The absolute leader of the daemons (above the harbingers) are the Four Horsemen, also known as the archdaemons or End Bringers. Each Horseman has his own legion of servitors called deacons, but they are lower in rank than the harbingers. In addition, some speak of how there is a fifth Horseman, called the Oinodaemon.
