Great Wheel
The Great Wheel is the most popular model of the cosmos.
According to the Great Wheel model, the material universe exists "in between" two vast cosmic "regions": the Inner Planes and the Outer Planes. The Inner Planes, connected to the material universe by that material universe's ethereal plane, are the worlds of raw elemental matter. The Outer Planes, connected to the material universe by the astral plane, are the worlds of spirit and mind.
Scholars who subscribe to the Great Wheel model propose that all the matter in the material universe is deposited into it from the Inner Planes, while spirit, mind, and soul is deposited into it from the Outer Planes.
