In the Great Wheel model of the cosmos, the Outer Planes are a set of seventeen metaphysical planes of existence. They lie outside of the material plane, across a vast astral ocean.

Each of the Outer Planes corresponds to an alignment on the good–evil, law–chaos axes. In addition, there is an Outer Plane "in between" each of the alignments (with the exception of True Neutral). For example, there is a Lawful Good Outer Plane, a Lawful Neutral Outer Plane, and also a plane in between Lawful Good and Lawful Neutral.
