Saphorism is the polytheistic ethnic religion of the Phoenic people.

Terminology

Phoenics themselves rarely refer to their religion as Saphorism. Saphorism is rather a term coined by Alicantian theologians to describe the collective religious and spiritual beliefs of the Phoenic people. It is based on the word Saphora, the name of the state church of Phoena.

Gods

The Phoenics worship many gods. Their principal deities are the divine family of Ra and his descendants.

Major gods

These are the gods most widely worshiped by Phoenics.

  • Casir, god of the desert, chaos, change, anarchy, and violence.
  • Mishra, god of kingship, rebirth, justice, and war.
  • Quethe, god of wisdom, knowledge, writing, magic, science, art, technology, engineering, craft, and skill.
  • Ra, god of the sun, law, order, and creation.
  • Vaisha, goddess of magic and war.

  • Zakkar, black god of sleep, dreams, and nightmares.

  • Abakesh, an abyssal serpent who attacked Casir at birth
  • Ebzu, a dead god. Son of Ra and husband of Nyssa. Killed by his children. A namen.
  • Kilva, ascended god of battle and domination.
  • Ku, father of Ra. Embodiment of the great sky waters from which Ra emerged.
  • Ossur, brother of Casir and Vaisha, brother-husband of Vaisha, and once the divine king of the earth. Murdered by Casir and then reincarnated as his own son Mishra. A namen god.
  • Nyssa, primordial goddess of the sea and chaos.
  • Shahra, the stormfather, god of lightning, thunder, the sky, storms, rain, and fertility. Father of Casir, Vaisha, and Ossur. A son of Ebzu and Nyssa. A namen.
  • Sonya, consort to Shahra, mother of Casir, Vaisha, and Ossur. A daughter of Ebzu and Nyssa. A namen.
  • Tharosh, one of the hells and also the living embodiment of that hell. Mated with Nyssa to produce a horde of demon spawn.
