Shirka's Rebellion

From Marillia

Shirka's Rebellion was a civil war in Phoena from 492 to 494 during the Eighth Occaria.

With numerous military disasters ensuing after the Spring Peace, Phoena's noble and merchant classes, as well as the military high command, was growing increasingly disillusioned with King Jassar's leadership. They thus selected General Ramal Shirka, one of Phoena's most popular and accomplished military commanders, to lead a coup to neutralize the crown and wrest control of Phoena's armed forces from it.

This conspiracy culminated in the September Coup—which failed, and sparked civil war.

Scholars are unanimous in thinking the rebellion hamstrung Phoena's war efforts and directly contributed to the humiliating terms imposed on Phoena by the Alicantian Empire. Some scholars even go as far as to argue that had the rebellion not occurred, Phoena and her allies would have won the war.
