Jinn are spiritual beings of great power.
Meta
The jinn of Marillia differ much from the jinn of other worlds. In Marillia, jinn are not elementals, but fey. Although they do often dwell in the Elemental Planes (and those who do typically get infused by elemental energies), they are not of the Elemental Planes.
Mythology
In Phoenic mythology, jinn occupy an intermediate place between humans and namens. They are beings made of fire by the gods, while humans were made of earth. They exist unseen in this world and others, but like pretty much everyone else they're confined inside the great wheel of rebirth by the Black Gods.
Many Phoenics believe (arcane) magic originates from jinn, that it is a jinn art humans have appropriated, which would explain why it comes so easily to jinn and yet with great difficulty to humans.
Settlements
- City of Brass, an ancient metropolis-fortress that floats in the Elemental Plane of Fire. Ruled by the Sun King.
- Jalidia, also known as the Citadel of Ice and Steel, a vast metropolis-fortress that floats in the Elemental Plane of Air. Ruled by the Windlord, an elected office whose candidates are not permitted to run for office.
Known jinn
- Azenhar (NG), the benevolent and peaceable Windlord of Jalidia
- Kazali (NE), a cruel and terrible jinn warlord who ruled a vast empire in ancient times in what is now Phoena. He was known for his great cruelty and proclivity to consume human meat. He was a rival of Marjaid. His reign of terror was ended by a magician named Sokurna, who imprisoned him in a boulder for thousands of years. In 494, Kazali was released by the Pale Brigade.
- Marjaid (LE), a tyrannical jinn who was once known and widely feared in Marillia. He ruled a great empire in what is now called Seuvia many thousands of years ago. He was a rival of Kazali. He retired some time ago to a palace in the City of Brass. In 494, he was coaxed out of retirement by Niraya.
