"Eladrin" is a very confusing term with many different meanings.
Originally, "eladrin" referred to a race of Chaotic Good elf-like celestials native to Arvandor. They're basically celestial elves. They're pretty badass. Nowadays they tend to get called "celestial eladrin."
In 4e, things were shaken up, since the Great Wheel was scrapped in favor of the World Axis. The term "eladrin" was redefined to refer to a race of elf-like fey dwelling in the Feywild.[1] These eladrin are also called high elves, sun elves, moon elves, or star elves.
As if things couldn't get more confusing, in 5e, there was another shakeup: the name "eladrin" was assigned to a subrace of fey-like elves.[2]
