Theology Monotheism

The Lucianus (LOO-shee-AW-nis or LOO-shee-AN-iss) is a monotheistic matriarchal religion that teaches the worship of a single all-powerful Goddess who descended to the earth in human form 500 years ago as Lucia to cleanse the world of sin.

Prevalence

The largest population of Lucians—in fact, the majority—exist in the Alicantian Empire. Although in the minds of most people in Teresis the Lucianus is inextricably coupled with the Alicantian Empire, it is the state religion of two other sovereign states: Vallyra and Kimmarab. In addition, there are substantial Lucian populations in Riyan, Phoena, and Imray.

Doctrines

Among the central doctrines of the Lucianus are:

  • Monotheism: Lucians believe in one god: the Goddess.
  • Millenarianism: Lucians believe that, around the year 500 AOL, on the Black Day, Lucia will return and usher in a thousand-year golden age on the earth.

Views on magic

Lucians have idiosyncratic views on magic. They believe arcane magic is derived from demons. Furthermore, as they believe the only true god is the Goddess and all other gods are demons, they believe all divine magic derived from a god other than the Goddess is demonic.

Lucians overwhelmingly decry arcane magic and celebrate (Goddess-derived) divine magic. Accordingly, there are Lucian clerics, paladins, druids, and rangers, in addition to blood hunters, divine soul sorcerers, and even a few celestial warlocks.

Lucian clerics and paladins believe their magic is channeled from the Goddess through the archangel Razi, the teacher of divine magic. Druids and rangers believe their magic comes either through Razi, through the angel Yannara, or through both (Goddess -> Razi -> Yannara).

Angels

Saints

  • Saint Alexandra, one of the three principal disciples of Lucia. Founder of the Hestati
  • Saint Aston, one of the three principal disciples of Lucia. The first Lucian convert and founder of the Sanctuary

  • Saint Emile, patron saint of Gascont.
  • Saint Micah, Sword of the Most High.[1]
  • Saint Valentus, the last saint and founder of the Alicantian Empire
