The matria, officially the bishop of Alicante, is the highest-ranking ecclesiastical official of the Sanctuary. She[1] is the head of the Grand Chamber and de facto the leader of the Alicantian Empire.
Matrias are elected when the office is vacant, and they serve for life.
The current matria is Cassandra, head of the Vorha Party.
