In Phoenic mythology, Nyssa (NEE-suh), often called Queen Nyssa or the Dragon Queen, is a primordial goddess of vast age and power. She is known by many names in other lands, such as Tiamat, Thala, and Takhisis.
Mythology
In Phoenic mythology, when Ra first found the earth, there was no land, only never-ending primordial sea, and beneath its waves lay slumbering Nyssa. When Ra raised land to populate it with his creations, Nyssa awoke from her slumber in terrible anger. To quell her wrath, Ra wed her to his son Ebzu.
Nyssa was quieted for an age. She and Ebzu produced many children. But then one day, their children accidentally killed their father. When Nyssa discovered them playing with his dismembered corpse, she unleashed a wrath upon the earth never before seen and never seen since. She mated with the dark abyss itself to produce a horde of demon spawn. It took the might of all her children put together to end her. In the end, it was her son Shahra who carved her into pieces.
Relationships
Nyssa has little respect or even fear of Ra. She believes most of the other gods—despite being her progeny—are beneath her notice. She seems to have little care even for the black gods.
Nyssa has a complicated relationship with Casir. Sorhan declared that she and Casir are one and the same. It is unclear whether she authorized this "new gospel," let alone whether it is even true.
Nyssa's champion in her 494 war against Raha is Arkhan the Godslayer, the supreme commander of her armies in Avernus.
Nyssa despises her children, and above all Shahra.
Nyssa has a complicated relationship with Asmodeus. It has had its ups and downs. She is imprisoned in Avernus, the first layer of Baator, which would seem to put her under Asmodeus's jurisdiction. However, she seems to operate almost entirely outside the infernal hierarchy. It is unclear why Asmodeus permits this. As of 494, their relationship is currently strained, at least with regards to Marillia: Nyssa has forged an unholy pact with Casir, and the two are coordinating their efforts in Phoena and Aluray. Asmodeus has formally demanded she disband her armies in Marillia. She has left Asmodeus on read.
