Avernus (I say uh-VUR-niss) is the first layer of the Nine Hells. It is a fiery wasteland of ash and dust where armies of colossal size clash without rest.
As the first circle of Hell, Avernus is one of the primary theaters of the Blood War. The entire layer is the site of ceaseless carnage and slaughter, as hordes of demons smash against legions of devils.
