Yuan-ti, also called serpent-men, are humans who have undergone a variety of abhorrent rituals, transforming themselves into serpentine abominations.
For some unknown reason, most of the yuan-ti in Teresis seem to dwell underground.
Origin
In a psychedelic vision in a lost Mhawari city, the Pale Brigade witnessed a scene from the past, in which Mhawari priests sacrificed a great many innocent people in horrific blood rituals atop their pyramids. After a sufficient amount of blood was spilled, the priests underwent transformations, gaining serpentine traits. This seems to be how yuan-ti are made in Marillia.
Religion
There seem to be two main religious camps among the yuan-ti: those who worship Iyashkabar, a guise of Casir, and those who worship Nyssa, known in other worlds as Tiamat.
In 494, Nyssa seemed to have sent dreams to tens of thousands of yuan-ti, telling them that she and Casir were one, and that they must journey to Troyosha and obey Sorhan, prophet of Casir.
Types
The three main types of yuan-ti are the purebloods, who are the most human-seeming; the malisons or halfbloods, who appeared as half-human, half-serpent; and the abominations, who appeared almost entirely serpentine.
