Gelugons (GEL-yoo-gawnz), also called ice devils, are extremely powerful devils of the Nine Hells. They often serve as high-ranking military officers and strategists, with a rank roughly equivalent to colonel, brigadier general, or major general. According to Mordenkainen, gelugons sit above the erinyes in the infernal hierarchy and below only the mighty pit fiends and amnizu.

Gelugons are among the most alien of the devils. They appear as huge lanky insectoids, usually 10-12 feet tall, with antennae, pincers, and inscrutable compound eyes like those of a fly. They are highly educated and fiercely intelligent; Abn-Azer describes the least of them as being on par with the greatest human scholars and military geniuses in history.
