Alicantian Empire

The Alicantian Empire is a theocratic imperial state in the Aenea in Teresis.

Scholars generally agree the empire was established in the year 302 by Saint Valentus. Since then, the empire has launched numerous religious wars in the Aenea and lands beyond, seeking to unify the human world under the Lucianus.

History

The Alicantian Empire was founded in 302 (approximately 200 years ago) by Saint Valentus and Yulei, the first Oracle. The Sanctuary had already long existed, but Saint Valentus established a new theocratic state in Alicante—the city that was once the core of the Valinain Empire—in the wake of the seventh Himraldan invasion of humanity.

Valentus believed that a divided humanity would face annihilation against the Himralda, and that the only thing that could prevent humanity's extinction was a new, centralized, militarized Lucian state that could marshal hundreds of thousands of soldiers against the endless waves of slaves from the Himralda.

Valentus was—if you couldn't guess by the fact that you're allowed to play as a human in Teresis—massively successful, and the overwhelming victories against the Himralda in the war cemented Alicante's position in the Aenea.

Government

Alicante is a theocracy—i.e., the church and state are one and the same. The government is the Sanctuary. The Sanctuary's central legislative body is the Grand Chamber.

The highest-ranking position in the Sanctuary is the Oracle, believed by Lucians to be a girl granted the Gift by the Goddess. The Oracle has a body of advisors called the Cere.

The head of the Grand Chamber is the Matria—a pope-like figure.

Military

Alicante has the largest and most sophisticated military in the known world. Its various branches are as follows.

• Alicantian Army. This is just the regular army.
• Imperial Navy. This is the regular navy. As in, big boats in water.
• Grand Navy. This is the newer, shinier, smaller navy, composed of airships and Zeppelins.
• Hestati. The most notorious of Alicante's armed forces. An ancient, elite order of monastic knights sworn to serve the Goddess and her servants on earth.
• Justices. The military arm of the Justitia, the judicial ministry of the Sanctuary.
• Allegiant. A small, secretive military order made up of castrated boys taken from non-Lucian families in foreign lands.
