Urgaloth is the title held by the nominal leader of the yugoloth race. The urgaloth rules from the Siege Malicious in the Wasting Tower of Khin-Oin in Oinos. The urgaloth is the nominal ruler of Oinos and the Blood Rift.

Canonically, the title was oinoloth (also oinodaemon), but in 5e for some reason they made oinoloths a type of yugoloth rather than an office, so I refer to the office as urgaloth.

The current urgaloth is Anthraxus the Decayed.

Pathfinder

In Pathfinder, the leaders of the daemons are not the urgaloth and the GOG, but rather the Four Horsemen. A fifth Horseman—known as the Oinodaemon—is rumored to exist.

Seat

The urgaloth's seat of power is the Siege Malicious, a magical throne at the top of Khin-Oin. The only way to become the urgaloth is to oust the incumbent. However, it doesn't seem that you need to outright kill them—if you can get them to fuck off, that's good enough.

Timeline

The timeline is a tad bit confusing, namely because of Kexxon. See, we know that Anthraxus became urgaloth circa -1522. And then sometime between 1357–1369, he was ousted by Mydianchlarus.

No problem so far, but here's where things get weird. We know that sometime around 1373 (around the end of the Silence of Lolth), Kexxon was urgaloth. The reason this is weird is because when Anthraxus returned (under the name "Phraxas"), he ousted Mydianchlarus.

What does this mean? It means that Mydianchlarus ousted Anthraxus, only to then be ousted by Kexxon (without getting killed)—and then Mydianchlarus must have retaken the throne from Kexxon, because we know Mydianchlarus was urgaloth when Anthraxus returned. Mydianchlarus was then booted out by Anthraxus—and boom, Anthraxus is back on the throne.

Confusing, no? Let me outline this in a timeline to make things clearer:

  • A bajillion years ago: Infestix becomes the first urgaloth.
  • -1522: Anthraxus becomes urgaloth.
  • 1357–1369: Mydianchlarus ousts Anthraxus without killing him, and becomes urgaloth.
  • (1357–1369)–1373: Kexxon somehow topples Mydianchlarus[1] without killing him, and seizes the throne for himself.
  • 1373: Kexxon is definitely the urgaloth.
  • 1373–1379: Mydianchlarus returns and ousts Kexxon, re-becoming urgaloth.
  • 1379: Anthraxus ousts Mydianchlarus and re-becomes urgaloth.
  • 1479: Anthraxus is definitely the urgaloth.

It's possible that another ultroloth toppled Mydianchlarus and Kexxon toppled that guy, but we have no evidence of that.
