The Vaati[1] (I say "VAH-tee" or "VAH-dee") are a group of ancient immortal beings hailing from the Elemental Planes.
The Vaati are actually pretty chill guys. They used to control a vast interplanar empire, but their empire was more like the Inca than the Aztec—it was legitimately a peaceful trading empire. They didn't violently conquer or forcefully incorporate foreign peoples.
