Tuern (I say either "TURN" or "TWURN") was the god of war and fire in the Dawn War pantheon before he was killed by Bane.

His origin is unclear. Some legends describe him as the son of Khala and the brother of Achra and Kord.[1] Others claim he was a more ancient war god and that Bane was not his brother but simply a mortal man.

Alignment

I can't find his alignment anywhere but my guess is he was either True Neutral, Chaotic Neutral, or maybe Neutral Evil. I don't think he was Chaotic Evil, since that would push him towards Gruumsh, who's all about carnage and destruction. I think Tuern is closer to Tempus of the Forgotten Realms (Tempus delights in battle but doesn't believe war should devolve into aimless slaughter).

Personality

Here's a quote from Dragon:

In their struggles, Kord came to love the thrill of competition; Tuern enjoyed the sight of his foe’s pain; and Achra took pleasure in the dominance, temporary though it was, that his victories earned him.[2]

So even though Tuern was way better than Bane, he still wasn't too nice of a guy. He genuinely enjoyed watching people get hurt.

Excerpt

From Divine Power (July 2009), p. 40:

Tuern: A god of conquest and fire, Tuern was overthrown by a mortal king. Bane was the greatest of mortal tyrants in the dawn of the world, and he became so powerful that he dared to give battle to the war god. He launched an invasion of the war god's realm, defeated Tuern, and seized the dominion for his own.

Speculation

Some speculate Tuern is the version of Tempus in the Nentir Vale.
