Ra (title)
This article is about the title of the ancient kings of Ogissia. For the deity, see Ra.
Ra was a title used by various Rhysian rulers throughout history. The term originates from ancient Ogissia, whose rulers were viewed as god-kings— thearchs, worshiped as living gods by their people. The priests of ancient Ogissia taught that the ras were simultaneously man and god—that they were incarnations of the gods Ra, Ossur, and Mishra, all in one, as well as reincarnations of their own past selves. The ra was often called Great One or Divine One.
The Ogissians believed that because the ra was of divine blood, his bloodline needed to be kept "pure". As such, the ras of Ogissia almost always wedded their sisters.
The Ogissians believe that the most ancient ras were the greatest and most powerful, living extraordinarily long lifetimes and wielding immense power. However, their bloodline was corrupted over time, leading the later ras to be frailer, weaker, shorter-lived, and less magically potent. They believe this ultimately led to the downfall of their civilization.[1]
