Githyanki are a subrace of gith who colonized the astral plane ages ago[1] and since then have built a vast interplanar empire. Think of them as space Nazis.
The githyanki have a ruthless, authoritarian, hierarchical society that is jingoistic, social Darwinist, and fanatically militaristic. It is led by their immortal god-queen Vlaakith CLVII, whose cult of personality has long since developed into a full-on religion.
The githyanki are in a perpetual state of total war against their ancient enemies, the mind flayers, who—so it is said—enslaved them eons ago. It was the gith who toppled their mighty interplanar empire, and it was the githyanki who replaced them as world-conquerors. Now the githyanki crusade across the multiverse in a hunt for every last mind flayer. Their entire society—from industry, to exploration, to scientific advancement, to childcare—is mobilized to this one task.
Religion
The githyanki empire is de jure atheistic, but in truth, their veneration of their queen Vlaakith is indistinguishable from a religion. Few githyanki would admit it, but they see their queen as a goddess.
