In Norse mythology, Freya (lit. "lady") is a badass Vanir goddess associated with war, love, beauty, sex, and magic. She is the daughter of Njord and the twin sister to Freyr.
There are IRL theories that she's the same goddess as Frigg (aka Frigga), the wife of Odin—which I personally think is true.
Marvel did Frigg/Freya dirty. You know how (spoiler alert) in Thor: The Dark World, she just gets stabbed like a nincompoop and dies instantly? Yeah, that would not happen. Freya's a warrior goddess. She was at one point a Valkyrie, and likely even their leader. She wouldn't just be sitting up in the palace waiting for the men to do the fighting for her. That's not how Norse goddesses roll.
Alignment
According to Deities and Demigods, she's Neutral Good.
Relationships
As mentioned, Freya is the daughter of the Vanir god Njord and Njord's unnamed sister-wife. She has a twin brother: Freyr.
Frigg is the wife of Odin. Freya's husband is identified as Odr, but Odr is probably Odin.
No, Freya isn't Thor or Loki's mom, but she is Baldur's.
Power Ranking
Freya is statted as follows[1]:
Level | 40 (Fighter 20, Sorcerer 20) |
---|---|
DR | 15 (intermediate power) |
However, I subscribe to the theory that Frigg and Freya are one and the same, and Frigg(a)'s stats are:
Level | 40 (Cleric 20, Wizard 20) |
---|---|
DR | 17 (greater power) |
